Our Trojan Mascot Name

The Osawatomie Historical Societies booklet, "Lest We Forget" published in 1995, states in an essay written by Shirley Erickson that "According to Charles Hollaway, class of 1934, Coach "Mac" Steele [the same individual after whome the main gymnasium is named after] asked the student body for a name for the Osawatomie High School football and basketball teams. Coach Steele went before the student body at an assembly and asked them to vote on a name. Holloway wrote that Trojan was selected because all OHS teams were strong, hard working, and determined. The thought being that the name Trojan signified more clearly the description of the teams of Osawatomie High.
